Setting up the withdrawal button in Shopify – without code
Shopify does not come with a withdrawal button – the function arrives in the theme through an app. Here is how to set it up with e-Widerruf, from install to test run.
-
Install the app
Install e-Widerruf from the Shopify App Store. The Free plan starts automatically – free forever, no payment method, and already covers the statutory function.
-
Enable the button in your theme
The button is a theme extension (app embed): in the theme editor (Online Store → Themes → Customize) open the app embeds, switch on e-Widerruf, save. Position and label are set there – as a floating button or a footer link. Font and button style are inherited from your theme; there is nothing to rebuild.
-
Check e-mail delivery
The app sends the acknowledgement automatically from an authenticated sender address; the sender name shown is your store name, and replies go to your contact address. Take a moment in the settings to confirm both.
-
Set the period and run a test
Set the withdrawal period (default 14 days, the statutory minimum – longer is allowed, shorter is not). Then open your store, click the button, submit a test withdrawal: the acknowledgement should be in your inbox and the case in the dashboard, complete with the automatic deadline check.
How to tell a sound implementation
- The acknowledgement confirms receipt only – not the validity of the withdrawal.
- The button works without login, including for guest orders.
- The acknowledgement contains the content, date and time of the declaration.
- The form does not require a reason as a mandatory field.
- Cases are documented (audit log), so you have evidence in a dispute.
These points are the standard in e-Widerruf, on every plan.
One more thing if you sell across borders
The button, the form and the acknowledgement should reach the customer in the customer's language. A localised form paired with a mandatory notice in a foreign language is a gap that is easy to overlook – and the notice about receipt rather than validity is precisely the part that has to be understood. e-Widerruf serves the flow in 24 EU languages.
