Understanding and setting up e-Widerruf

Everything about the Shopify app e-Widerruf: from the first click after installing to the complete feature reference – button, form, acknowledgement of receipt, deadline check and administration.

Not legal advice. This documentation describes how the app works technically. Final legal responsibility – in particular for the withdrawal information, terms and privacy policy – rests with the merchant.

Where would you like to start?

→ Getting started

From installing to the test run in four steps: switch the button on in your theme, check the e-mail dispatch, set the deadline and branding, run a test. A few minutes, no code.

→ Feature reference

Every function in detail: how the button picks up your theme, what the three-step form asks for, why the acknowledgement confirms receipt and nothing more, how the deadline calculation works – and which function sits in which plan.

What this is about

Since 19 June 2026, Directive (EU) 2023/2673 and the national laws transposing it require an electronic withdrawal function for B2C distance contracts with a right of withdrawal concluded through an online interface: a permanently visible withdrawal button, a form with the information the law provides for, and an acknowledgement of receipt without undue delay on a durable medium.

e-Widerruf provides exactly that for Shopify stores – as a theme extension without touching the code, administered inside the Shopify admin. The acknowledgement confirms the receipt of the declaration only, not its validity – whether a withdrawal is valid remains your decision.

Which provision applies to you depends on where you sell. Germany spells the requirement out in § 356a BGB, France in art. L221-21 and D221-5 C. consom., the Netherlands in art. 6:230oa BW, Italy in art. 54-bis of the Codice del consumo. The four elements are the same in each; only the citation changes. See the obligation across the 27 member states.
