From installing to the test run
Four steps, a few minutes, no code: how to set up e-Widerruf after installing. The app walks you through the same steps under e-Widerruf → Getting started and ticks off what is done.
The four steps
-
Install the app
Install e-Widerruf from the Shopify App Store. The Free plan starts automatically – free forever, no payment method, and already carrying the information the law requires in the acknowledgement. Pro and Business can be activated later at any time with a 14-day trial.
Shopify asks for the usual permissions during installation; e-Widerruf only processes what withdrawals require (details in the feature reference under Data protection & security).
-
Switch the withdrawal button on in your theme
The button arrives as a theme extension (app embed) – without touching the theme code:
- Open Getting started → To the theme editor in the app – or, in the Shopify admin, Online store → Themes → Customize.
- In the theme editor, open the app embeds (puzzle icon in the left sidebar).
- Switch e-Widerruf on and save.
Position and label are set directly in the theme editor: as a floating button or as a footer link. The button inherits typeface and button style from your theme – nothing is rebuilt, there is no colour picker to maintain.
-
Check the e-mail dispatch
e-Widerruf sends the acknowledgement of receipt automatically. App dispatch is ready from installation: the sender is an authenticated e-widerruf.de address, the sender name is your store name, replies go to your contact address (reply-to).
Under e-Widerruf → Settings → E-mail, check that name and reply address are right. Custom templates, logo and no-branding come with Pro; sending through your own domain (SMTP) is part of Business.
-
Set the withdrawal period and run a test
Under Settings → Withdrawal period you set the period – the default is 14 days, the statutory minimum. A longer period (30 days as a commercial promise, say) is possible; a shorter one is refused by the app.
Then the practical test: open your store, click the withdrawal button and send a test withdrawal. Within moments you should
- see the acknowledgement in the test address's inbox,
- find the case in the e-Widerruf → Dashboard – including the automatic deadline check,
- be able to open it there and set a status (reject it, since it is a test).
Getting there is now one click. “To the theme editor” in Getting started opens the editor with the app embed already switched on – no hunting for the puzzle icon. Two steps you then confirm yourself with a checkbox: the theme integration, and setting the period and mail appearance. The app deliberately does not check these automatically – whether the button sits where you want it is something only a look at the store can tell. Once all four steps are done, you can dismiss the block from the dashboard.
Worth a look afterwards
- Withdrawal information Settings → Instruction: on request the app provides the withdrawal instruction from the official EU model – with return address, who bears the costs, and an optional reference to the withdrawal button. Details
- Form texts Settings → Form: title, introduction, optional reasons for withdrawal. Details
- Visibility per country: if you also sell into countries without a statutory right of withdrawal (Switzerland or the USA, for instance), you can hide the withdrawal function there – the EU, the EEA and the UK always stay on. Details
- DPA: the data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is included. Details
Done. With the button switched on, mail dispatch running and the period set, your store meets the technical requirements of the withdrawal function. Whether your store is compliant overall in your particular case (instruction, terms, privacy policy) is a question only a lawyer can answer.
